Weekly Letter 11-13-2014

Posted in Weekly Letters on Nov 13, 2014

Dear Point Beach Prep Families,
This week we met Mr. H and his happy heart. We learned American Sign Language for the letter H and “happy.” Our sight word is “have.” At our project table we made a helping hands project, an army man for Veteran’s day, we did hot chocolate math, made leaf rubbings, and made a letter H horse. We read Hot Rod Hamster (book on tape), Humphrey (book on tape), Harry’s House, One Little, Two Little, Three Little Pilgrims, and Clifford’s Thanksgiving Visit.
On Veteran’s Day, Army Specialist Christopher Cook came to school and talked to the children and showed them his medals. We are thankful for his service.
On Thursday, the Pre-K and Nursery classes explored the Element of Line with Mrs. Karen Norby. They learned that there are two types of lines, STRAIGHT made by man and CURVED, made by nature. The beginning of a line is a dot that we take for a walk. We explored curved lines in nature, i.e. shells, leaves even our own curved bodies. The children moved their bodies to create both curved and straight lines in a game of “Simon Says.” We observed how artist Vincent Van Gogh used curved lines to show movement in his painting “The Starry Night.” Don’t worry if your child did not get to meet Mrs. Norby, she will come several times throughout the year, alternating her days!
Please read the attached information regarding our upcoming Thanksgiving Show.
See you next week with letter I!
